In-State Tuition Qualifications
U.S. Veterans and current members of the U.S. military who served on active duty for at least 90 days are eligible for the in-state tuition assessment. Acceptable documentation includes a DD-214 or a GI Bill® Certificate of Eligibility.
Military dependents/spouses who are eligible for transferred Post 9/11 GI Bill® education benefits, the Fry Scholarship, and/or Chapter 35 DEA benefits are entitled to the in-state tuition assessment with the required documentation. A copy of the Milconnect GI Bill® benefit transfer confirmation page or a GI Bill® Certificate of Eligibility would satisfy this requirement.
Submit your documentation for in-state review here.
The in-state tuition policies apply to all educational levels. Students receiving in-state tuition must remain continuously enrolled to continue receiving the benefit. New and re-entering students must meet the policy criteria current at the time of admission or re-entry to be eligible to receive the in-state tuition benefit.
If you have questions about this policy the IVETS staff would be happy to help. You can reach us at registrar-vets-office@uiowa.edu.
There are alternative ways to establish residency at the University of Iowa, please reach out to the Registrar's Office to learn more.
