Activities and Events

Air Force ROTC at UIOWA offers many opportunities to stay involved with the program through various extra curricular activities!

Air Force ROTC Cadets with Civil Air Patrol

Fly with Civil Air Patrol

Cadets have the opportunity to fly a small Civil Air Patrol aircraft with an instructor! They get to fly over the Kinnick Stadium, home to Hawkeye Football. Cadets also learn about the mission of the Civil Air Patrol and see if they have what it takes to fly!

Color Guard

Cadets get the chance to open Hawkeye games with performing a color guard for the National Anthem. One of the most breathtaking experience as a student is to stand in the middle of Kinnick with seventy thousand people cheering you on!

Base Visits

Cadets here at Det 255 get the opportunity to visit different Air Force bases across the country and observe how an actual Air Force base functions! This past year cadets visited Offutt AFB, Nebraska and McConnell AFB, Kansas!

Awards Dinner

Cadets participate in a special military dinner complete with several Air Force traditions including the infamous Grog bowl. Awards Dinner is a formal event with a guest speaker honoring the graduating cadets and awarding individuals for the hard work accomplished during the year!

Volunteering

Cadets like to be actively involved in the well being of the community. For this, we get along with other student orgs such as The U of I Veterans Association and perform community service.

Combat Dining In

The cadets of Golf and Hotel Flights had a fun battle of wills in a game of Capture The Flag at the semi-annual Combat Dining In Event of Detachment 255!
