Chelsea is a native Iowan whose journey in higher education began in the fields of writing-centered teaching and tutoring. She earned her B.A. in English, M.A. in English, Graduate Certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Ph.D. in English all from the University of Iowa. While working on her Ph.D. on documentary poetry, Chelsea taught Rhetoric and Interpretation of Literature, two general education classes almost every student must take to graduate. She also tutored in the Writing Center. In these roles, Chelsea dedicated herself to creating learning environments that encouraged critical thinking through writing, reading, and speaking. She promoted this interest by teaching and mentoring  new graduate student instructors in Rhetoric and Interpretation of Literature and new Writing Center tutors at the University of Iowa.

Outside of work, Chelsea rides her recumbent tricycle, Irwin, reads everything from the latest YA fantasy novel to Tolstoy, and goes on adventures with her husband and baby boy.
