Hear what previous cadets have thought about their experience with the Air Force ROTC:
"Iowa AFROTC has provided me with structure and leadership development. Not only that, I have found a group of cadets and people that I can call my best friends. I am so grateful for AFROTC for giving my college experience a purpose."
"I joined the ROTC program on a limb. I did not understand anything about the program or the Air Force but decided it would be fun to try out. Little did I know I would gain so much from this program. I have learned how to communicate effectively and efficiently. I have gained a sense of community and friends that have similar values. It has taught me how to balance stressful situations and be present during those times. Overall, the AFROTC program at the University of Iowa has and will continue to change my life for the better."
"My favorite memory was the first time I was on the field in Kinnick seeing the flag soar and hearing nearly 70,000 people sing the National Anthem. That was when I realized that I was now a part of something bigger than myself. I have found some of my best friends as well as my mentors in the form of fellow cadets. The detachment as whole has one the most welcoming environment That I have been a part of, and everyone here roots for each other's success."
“Never did I expect to meet my best friends, grow exponentially as a person and as a leader, and get to train to go into one of the most exciting and fulfilling opportunities of my life all in one place.”
"When I was in high school, I decided I wanted to join the Air Force. I knew ROTC at Iowa would be my best option, because I already had Iowa picked out as my top choice to complete my undergrad at. I was not a very confident person when I first joined the program my freshman year, but it quickly forced me to get out of my comfort zone. It gave me some strong friendships that I may have not formed elsewhere. Finally, and arguably, most importantly, It taught my invaluable leadership and teamwork skills that I've been able to apply in all aspects of my life so far."
"Joining the AFROTC program at Iowa was easily the best decision I’ve made in college. The Air Force has given me a sense of purpose and introduced me to some of the best people I’ve ever met. On top of that, my training has given me the skills and confidence necessary to be an effective leader. It is truly an honor to train with the cadets at Detachment 255 on the path towards becoming an officer in the world’s greatest air force."
"In the four years I have spent at Detachment 255 I have made so many friends and have had the many unique experiences that the typical college student does not get. I have learned how to have confidence in myself, lead others, and how to reach my goals. The experiences I have gained from Detachment 255 will stick with me throughout the rest of my life."
